"Over 28 years of reliable EAP & Behavioral Healthcare Services"

Our Integrated Behavioral Health Model

Behavioral healthcare decisions are the biggest drivers of healthcare outcomes and costs. Our decisions and actions regarding how much we exercise, what we put in our bodies, how we approach safety issues, how we deal with medical recommendations regarding illness and injuries, as well as how we treat one another and handle occupational and interpersonal stress, all have a pervasive impact upon health.

Appropriate behavioral healthcare evaluation and treatment has a significant positive influence upon the outcomes and costs associated with mental health problems such as depression, anxiety disorders and substance abuse problems such as alcoholism and drug dependency. However, it is important to realize that behavioral health practices also have a significant influence upon medical health outcomes and expenses.

An abundance of research conducted over several years indicates that personal problems such as stress, depression and substance abuse substantially increase medical expenses for co-occurring disorders, such as heart conditions, hypertension, asthma and diabetes. Other costs associated with poor performance and security issues are also increased.  When employees and family members obtain professional help for their personal problems, the costs associated with each of these categories can be reduced, often substantially.

Pimary Behavioral Care

As primary contacts for behavioral health problems, Yost EAP licensed, behavioral health professionals are well positioned to act as behavioral care coordinators for integrated health care practices, making referrals to appropriate service professionals, as well as providing follow up case management. Our staff can also play an important role in complimenting services provided by primary care physicians and others in a general medical setting.

The pervasive use of psychotropic medication has had both beneficial and negative consequences. One of the consequences has been that the majority of mental health problems are treated with prescriptions written by physicians in general medical settings. For some patients this may work fine. However, in many situations patient outcomes would benefit from treatment provided by behavioral health professionals with the knowledge, experience and time to provide psychotherapy or other behavioral interventions of a brief to moderate duration, as well as assistance obtaining social and economic support. Others may require more extensive services. In both circumstances, patient outcomes can be improved and costs can be more effectively controlled. Yost EAP providers can provide the critical care management that is often necessary to provide more complete treatment regimens necessary for optimal care and reducing costs.

Behavioral health and associated medical problems can also have a profound influence upon a whole host of work performance and related problems such as absenteeism, lateness and sub par performance when at work. Often such problems are associated with excessive employee turnover and the associated consequences. To appreciate the magnitude of the problem, consider the fact that for the average company, turnover costs are more than 12% of pre-tax income.  At the high end, those costs can reach almost 40% of earnings.

Fortunately, management working in tandem with the Yost EAP integrated health care model can help reduce those costs significantly.

Wellness & Prevention

The decisions that we make concerning diet, exercise, recreation and relationships have a dramatic influence upon our psychological and physical health, as well as our overall ability to manage stress. Yost EAP offers the wellness and prevention tools employees and family members need to cultivate a sustained healthy lifestyle, such as interactive web based content, personalized wellness counseling, and a wide range of training options.

Safety Issues

The manner in which behavioral health and medical issues are handled can also have a profound influence upon a whole host of safety related issues associated with factors such as accidents and workplace violence. Please refer to our safety page for an expanded discussion of this topic.
